On the surface, the game is making all the right decisions. Both versions of the battle pass are packed with skins, sprays, charms, and a variety of content that outweighs anything its predecessor had in its first few months. Seasonal events are established, and an existing roster of heroes we’ve already fallen in love with have a generous roster of cosmetics and lore to build upon. I’m already invested, and for Blizzard that is half the battle right now.

The 2020 season of the Overwatch League is in full swing and will continue to ramp things up during its second weekend in Philadelphia. The opening weekend showcased some incredible matches and an even deeper pool of talent than ever before. We predict that these are players to watch throughout the second weekend of the Overwatch Lea

I know, I know, the medal system was flawed. In an effort to curb toxicity, the original Overwatch team opted to forgo a traditional scoreboard and instead use a medal system that would vaguely tell you how well you’re doing. During and after a match you could see how well you did compared to your team based. Across a series of categories from eliminations, to damage dealt, to healing, the top three performers would receive gold, silver, and bronze medals. If you have a particularly good game, you might even receive gold medals in multiple categor

Blizzard took the mantle of #1 hero shooter from Valve's Team Fortress 2 in 2016 when they released the best FPS of the 2010s, Overwatch 2 Guide|https://overwatch2fans.com/ . It's a game that rewards teamwork (unless your teammates are jerks), and with 31 heroes to choose from, there's bound to be a character that suits your play style. Yes, it's had its ups and downs over the years (seems like a lot of downs recently), but that can't take away the hundreds of hours many have put into this excellent shoo

Overwatch skins are nothing more than costumes to dress your favourite characters up in, so it seems silly for someone like me, who only plays rarely and not even as Soldier 76, to care about them so much. But it’s not really about whether the skins look good, whether I’d want them, and whether they’re better or worse than other sets. It’s that Blizzard had the opportunity to embrace the queer culture behind Soldier 76 and Tracer, a culture the company is happy to cater to in only the most minor of ways, and instead ducked it. A skin that was unabashedly queer was an opportunity to reinforce the diversity Blizzard often talks about, but Overwatch deliberately let the opportunity pass

Medals are completely meaningless. Other than a minor XP boost from your highest medal earned, you don’t get anything for collecting medals. They aren’t tracked on your stat page or in your achievements, you can’t trade them for cosmetics, and you can’t even see anyone’s medals but your own. What they did do was explode onto the screen all bright and shiny at the end of every match. Despite my praise for the designs, Overwatch is not a game with in-depth characters - it’s all skin deep. Any attempt to flesh them out usually comes through fine print in the lore, promo reels, or external material like comic books. I understand why fans want these great designs to be built upon further, and I appreciate that a hero shooter all about utilising powers and fast PvP play is not the ideal genre for deep, interconnected stories. Overwatch has two queer characters, which is more than most triple-A games, but it’s hard to give it too much credit when their queerness has been so completely downplayed. It’s often lauded for its diversity - it even once had a GLAAD nomination - but that fact is its two queer characters are white, cis, and straight passing, while there are more playable animals and playable robots than there are playable Black women. That’s not too much of a stretch though, given that there are zero Black women in Overwatch’s heaving roster right now - Sojourn will join in Overwatch 2, but that feels too late for a game with playable 32 charact

Alarm is a highly touted flex-support player coming into the league this season and should make an impact for the Philadelphia Fusion immediately. He has the opportunity to be one of the bright, young stars of the league with skill capable of matching the best flex-supports in the league like Sung-hyeon "JJoNak" Bang and Jooseok "Twilight" Lee. Firstly, I firmly believe that Titanfall 2 deserved a better release date. The game also deserves to be played by so many more people. The feel of the movement system alone is miles ahead of any other shooter I’ve played this decade. Not only that, but the story mode is one of the most creative and thoroughly enjoyable campaigns that I’ve ever played in a shooter of its type. "He’s over-exaggerating," you may say. Maybe.
