If you haven't yet, now might also be the time to go back and play The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassination of Kings. CD Projekt Red's first installment of The Witcher trilogy picks up right after the closing events in Andrzej Sapkowski's original nov

Not much can be said for the graphical quality - games have come a long way since 2007 and 2011 - but the rich storytelling we expect from the witcher's tales is all there and as a fan of the franchise, you don't want to overlook these chapters in Geralt's st

More than that, the argument has been made that weapon durability systems basically discourage combat altogether. If you must constantly replace your weapons—and especially if you’re carrying a better weapon with you—you’re reluctant to use it because you don’t want to use it up. Furthermore, it also encourages players to use the worst weapons possible in every battle, in fear of using up the good ones. Instead of encouraging the usage of a variety of weapons like the system is supposed to, it often ends up encouraging players to simply avoid combat. Sometimes, players even finish the game without using any of the best weapons, because they "might need it later"—indefinitely. It almost seems like weapon durability is basically the game’s way of shooting itself in the f

The premiere of The Witcher season two on Netflix this past winter spiked viewer anticipation for the series' direction and what it could bring to the franchise. For some of us, that means following the production of season three much more closely as it commenced, while for others it calls for yet another replay of The Witcher

Some games have definitely used weapon durability systems better than others. Dying Light , for example, allows for repairing and upgrading weapons. In Monster Hunter , your weapons become less sharp as you use them, limiting what you can cut through, but the game allows for the use of whetstones in order to sharpen them again (though different weapons have different limits). The weapons in Fire Emblem break after you’ve gone through the number of uses per weapon, but most of the weapons are so easy to replace that it doesn’t become a consistent detraction from the game, it simply adds to the strategy per

Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have joined Monster Hunter World on PC, thanks to a character swap mod. Of course, this does not mark the first time that the World of the Witcher has crossed paths with Capcom's hit franchise. The collaboration between Capcom and CD Projekt Red added Geralt, Witcher -themed items, resources to craft the White Wolf's armor and weapon sets, and much m

Monster Hunter World originally launched on PS4 and Xbox One platforms in January 2018 before releasing on PC several months thereafter. The action role-playing game enjoyed widespread critical acclaim in addition to meteoric success on the market, which eventually resulted in its becoming the highest-selling Capcom game in company history at over 20 million units sold. It's no wonder, then, that Monster Hunter's PC modding community remains incredibly act

When you want the best of the best, you have to eke out a bit more effort to get it. Horizon Zero Dawn's Shield-Weaver Armor puts you to work finding all five Power Cells in order to obtain the armor - but it's well worth the eff

Sold at 10,000 souls by the Shrine Handmaiden, it's not too frightfully expensive compared to other armor sets on sale . Unsurprisingly, this is the record heaviest armor in the game, but it offers the highest defensive capabilities . From high fire to bleed resistance, it's good armor to have if you're playing as a t

However, this is not to say that durability systems should just be eliminated entirely. In fact, when done right, they can make gameplay feel more realistic in a way that isn’t infuriating. For starters, apart from survival games, weapons can still have a durability limit without breaking. Or perhaps eventually they will break, but you’re able to keep tabs on how worn out your weapons are, and you can choose to go and repair them before they get close to breaking entirely. This would keep the realism element without making the player feel like they need to entirely avoid using their better weapons. This would also avoid the aggravating part where you must constantly be finding new ones to pick up (though you likely would need to be gathering supplies as you progress through the game, to have the materials to fix weapons lat
